I started this painting because of the clouds – across the field they were building up in beautiful blues and greys and I couldn’t wait to jump in and paint them. I was a little disappointed when I got to the ground – everything was in sort of a grey half-light, no contrast, no color. This is dull, I thought.
And then with about five minutes to spare the sun slanted out from behind the clouds and showered my scene with light. Stayed just long enough for me to put the finishing touches in. I appreciate that.
