I was house-sitting with some Westies over the weekend and walked out to the back porch one morning to find this poor little mourning dove had kamakazed into the window and died. After the requisite moment of silence I scooped her up and laid her out to sketch – I may be sentimental, but it doesn’t mean I’m not opportunistic. It’s fascinating to be able to examine a wild bird close up like this – seeing how the tail and wings fold up and fan out, being able to sketch close-ups of the beak and eyes and feet. Sad as it is when dead animals turn up, it’s really an exciting opportunity.
You’re death was not wasted, little friend.
