I’ve always thought this tree was particularly aesthetic as trees go. All wobbly branched as it is. The trouble is that there’s no place to paint it from that isn’t in full sun – and I am a pansy when it comes to painting without any shade.
But when it comes to plein air, that’s what cloudy days are for. I never understood why some painting books called overcast days perfect days to paint – no sun, no shadows, right? And what do you paint if you’re not painting light and shadow?
Well, you paint whatever you want for as long as you want, and you don’t have to sweat while doing it. Without the sun to change on you ever ten minutes, you can get a lot of detail in. Plus, no worry of having the sun in your eyes. Nice.
