I think I’ve actually painted this particular vista a few times before, but I’m too much of a sucker for back-lit leaves and the blueing effects of atmospheric perspective to pass up painting it again this spring. It’s also adjacent to just about the loveliest spot to sit in the whole field: a little hill under the dense trees. Always shaded, sparse on grass, gives you a 360 view of the forest, peek-a-boos of the open field beyond and oh, did I mention? Frequently aflitter with butterflies. It beats sitting in the tall grass, which will get you sun-burned, ant-bit and crawled upon by spiders.
