White Flowers

watercolor_arboretum_april16I went to the arboretum today and not wanting to lug around my acrylics I brought my pocket watercolors. Ho-boy…it’s been awhile since I’ve attempted something complex in watercolors – it took a lot of flailing to get this one in decent shape. For one thing a buxom hedge of white flowers was a bold choice for someone who is historically terrible at reserving her whites. Also dappled sunlight. Also water. Also rock textures. But, considering all those artistic hurdles and the fact that I was juggling an iced mocha and trying to see around the people photographing their babies, I think it turned out well.
