There are (what I assume to be) rabbit holes all over the field – some are so cleverly concealed I don’t see them until I’ve nearly stepped in them. I presume that they’re abandoned – they’re all mostly stuffed with dead leaves and covered over with grass and dirt and I certainly don’t see enough rabbits to fill them. There is one poor rabbit that I startle from time to time.I wonder if he knows there’s a veritable rabbit mansion just waiting to be cleaned out and enjoyed. And what happened to the former residents, I wonder? Probably pushed out once the warehouses hemmed them in. Anyway, I thought this particular hole was sort of picturesque – good note-taking for any future rabbit illustrations I may do.
