Some days the thought of lugging my painting things outside is just too tiring. Now, during the summer or in the dead of winter, the choice on those days is easy – stay inside and work on indoor projects. But as it is extremely rude to let a beautiful fall day exert itself unwitnessed, I’ve been grabbing my sketchbook rather than my paintbrushes more often than usual. It’s incredibly relaxing, sitting on the ground and sketching while the sun goes down, not worrying about mixing paints or missing the light. Relaxing, too, is the fact that a bag with a sketchbook and pencils weighs about twelve pounds less than my painting gear.
