I’ve always known that one of these days I was going to get out to a field painting location and have forgotten something important. Today was that day. I forgot my tube of blue. So this was a forced experiment in a limited palette – and pretty fun, once I finished kicking myself.
I wasn’t entirely up a creek – there was a scab of half dried Prussian blue at the corner of my pochade box that I managed to squeeze back to life. Just enough to make my darks and get a bit of green going for the grass. I’m surprised how little I actually needed to match the colors halfway realistically. Just goes to show it’s more about the relationships between the colors than the individual colors themselves.
