Lots of new painting challenges to tackle in the hills of New Mexico – mountains, conifers… mountains with conifers on them. So maybe just the two. One thing I learned quickly is that sunrise isn’t exactly sunrise up there. Those big, rocky earth-piles called mountains cast a shadow over your landscape long after the time the sun would have risen on flat land. This was a bit frustrating, because I couldn’t get the pretty clouds and the morning light all in the same painting. But I did get to sleep in.
