New Mexico Sketchbook

fieldsketchI took an end of summer vacation to New Mexico this past week and did my best to fill my sketchbooks with distant mountains, coniferous trees and hazy vistas before returning to the flatlands of  Texas – not that I don’t love you, homeland, but some variety was nice! I’ve always had an itch to study atmospheric perspective from life – something that’s nigh impossible in a tree-locked Texas suburb – and I got it in New Mexico. Plenty of purple mountains and blue horizons to practice on. Most of my oil paintings are still drying, but here are some of the highlights from the sketchbook.
