Another tangle of leaves lured me into painting them – and these right in front of the sun. I was dodging sunbeams and squinting the whole time. But I do love the look of back-lit leaves. Trunks on the other hand, I’m not so fond of. They always look so flat and stiff when I paint them, not like the living, growing things they are. I guess I get so caught up in the leaves and the sky and the things in the background that the trunk only receives the last dregs of my effort before I call it quits. I guess I need to find some good, gnarly trunks to practice on – but, that might have to wait ’til winter when there’s nothing better to paint!
