I was really confident walking home from this painting session that I’d captured the scene pretty well. Here, a few days later when it’s dry and ready to scan, it looks almost abstract to me – there are trees in there somewhere, I think. But the colors and lighting, at least, ring true – golden hour on a hot summer day. I can almost feel the sweat dripping down my neck and the ants crawling on my legs. That was meant to be wistful – I’ll probably miss that heat and those ants when they’re gone.
