I was probably the only one on the beach this day who was elated to find storm clouds brewing on the horizon. They made such dramatic, sweeping tableaus of their shifting puffs and streaks of grey, purple and blue – and every once in a while they’d let a sunlit pile of cream-colored clouds peek through. To remind you that, somewhere, at least, there was a beautiful, sunny, beach-perfect day going on. But the lack of bright sun turned the waves deep green and jewel-like – and the sand and water and sky just sort of blended together like an abstract study in blue. I had to paint furiously to get these two pieces done before my things got too wet – but it was well worth getting rained on.
