I love the energy in the air when there’s a thunderstorm rolling around – and the light is always something worth catching. It makes me antsy, though – I always feel I have to rush, there’s always something about to happen. The rain’s about to fall, the clouds are about to break, I’m about to get struck by lightning. I had to hole up under my lopsided umbrella to keep the raindrops from spotting up my watercolors for this painting – and halfway through the sky had the audacity to clear up and turn bright and blue and sunny. But, knowing that a hot, dry summer lies ahead, I’m happy to put up with the little whims of the wet season while it lasts.
