Classroom Creations

SAM_4173 Last month I had the opportunity to visit with a friend’s 5th grade class to help them with an art project on endangered species. I taught them a little bit about focal points and how artist’s make their subjects jump off the page – for 10-years-olds they picked up on things really quickly and, from the paintings I brought, deduced that line, color, value and placement on the canvas were all important for drawing the eye to the main attraction – smart kids! They picked out endangered animals and each did a small painting of their own, and they all worked a little on a large painting of a tiger, which I had outlined for them. It was a lot of fun seeing them excited about art – and being a “real artist” in their eyes did a lot for my confidence!
