Faces are hard to paint. Fortunately for the budding artist, we all have a perfect model for study attached to our skull. Whenever I’m working on something in oil and find myself with paint left on my palette, I try and do a few little self portraits for practice. Someday I aim to actually get some practice on other face types, but as I’ve been unsuccessful in convincing my friends to pose for me so far, I’ll have to make due with my own. I suppose I could do the professional thing and hire a model to sit for me, but where’s the thriftiness in that?
